Do you think the concept of the movie Eagle Eye can happen in real life?

This movie was an amazingly logical movie. With the right technological platform, I personally believe it could happen in the future. But to the people who say a system like that could already exist, I usually disagree because not that many things around cities are really "online" or connected to one another.

For those who haven’t seen it, basically, it’s about a very advanced computer system that helps government operations, but the system gets too smart and “calculates” that the senate and president are not good enough to lead this country and “calculates” that they need to be eliminated. So it stops listening to human operators and starts chaos on its own.

Because the system has access to wireless phone networks and GPS and stuff, it’s really powerful. Every public camera, electronic sign, and traffic light is connected to it somehow.

What do you think? Could it happen?

Suunto X10 GPS Watch

I have tried my best to extract this video from somewhere else. Click HD for best view. X10 or X10 Military? Its a question we are seeing a lot! There really are minimal differences between the X10 and its military counterpart apart from the obvious styling – the X10M sports an all black facial. The military version also features a red backlight and compass in degrees of mils units A lesser know difference is that the GPS funtion of the X10M can be set to use the MGRS system (Millitary Grid Reference System): The MGRS system was designed to simplify the specification of position and passing of coordinates for soldiers and marines. The MGRS system allows users to abbreviate the 13-digit UTM coordinate, making it easier to use. We have not found any immediate advantage here – unless of course you are calling the US army out to rescue you, they may find you a little faster! If you really want to buy Suunto X10, have a look at its instruction manual first, at media.suunto.com Have a look at its forum, forum.suuntowatches.com Suunto is going to announce its new watch on 26 May 2009. So think of it before you do any purchase. I would really appreciate if Suunto makes adventure watches which really suit for adventure gadgeteers which may require these features:(I prepared this for a long time, made extensive research, hope to get considered) 1. Wireless pc-watch/ watch-watch connectivity(ANT) 2. Weather station/ forecaster(humidity hygrometer) 3. Walkie talkie(eg WRL-00560

VZ Navigator or Standalone GPS?

I have a Verizon Wireless cell phone and I have been paying the a month extra for the VZ Navigator service. Im a installation technician and I use VZ Navigator almost everyday. I have thought about getting a standalone GPS but the problem I have is I would have to always carry it from my car to my work van and then back to my car everyday, since I could possibly use it for something else when at home. I also look at that I have given Verizon 0 so far for VZ Navigator where I could have bought a fairly nice GPS at that price. So Im just wanting to see what you guys would do if you were in my shoes. Also if I would get a standalone GPS what brand would be best a Garmin, TomTom or a Navigon. Is the Navigon street view that great like they make it sound? Thanks for the help.

Joe
